Poem of false love, the desire to be seen by someone only sees what they want to believe.
Look Me in the Eyes
~ Unknown Icarus

Look me in the eyes and tell me what you see.

Do you see the depth of my soul,
Or just a shell of what I used be?

Is it the light of hope,
Or the darkness of despair?

Do you see a smile or frown,
Or a simple blank stare.

Do you actually see me,
Or are admiring your muddy reflection?

Look me in the eyes and tell me what you see.

Not what you wish was there
Or what you are still searching for.

What do you see?
Because I know it is not me.

When you look into my eyes,
Do you hear her name as mine,

her touch as wildfire,

her smell as wine,

Do you taste her lips with painful desire?

Look me in the eyes and tell me what you see.

Do you see the depth of my soul,
Or just a shell of what you want me to be?

Is it the light of hope,
Or the darkness of fear?

Do you see a smile or frown,
Or a simple blank stare.
