A personal tale of fear in a serious illness
Diagnosis

I will know the answer soon.
It’s the expectation that is the worst
I know what I want to hear
But doubt gnaws at me
It is like a lurking beast
In the darkness of my thoughts.
I struggle back toward the light{
The struggle to wait
For things to run their course.
Fear tries to conquer me.
My internal battle is unseen by others.
A woman’s voice calls my name.
I rise and follow as she leads me to a small room.
“The doctor will see you next,”
She says and leaves me sitting there.
In a matter of minutes, the door opens.
The doctor enters and sits across from me.
Now I will know what’s next.
