As lots of spending and global change restore conscience, a nation seeks recovery - a poem
The current administration’s legacy
Seems entombed
In every soldier’s disrespected
And irresponsibly mistreated
And lied to casket
Which seeks accountability
For the reckless nature
Of the war’s blatantly callous
And heartless withdrawal -
The unacknowledged meaning
Of the deaths
Of these soldiers
And the impossible ownership
Of the 20-plus years’ response
To the intolerable attacks of 9/11
In defense of our nation
Is just to save
A few trillion dollars
To spend in the most armed
And magnificent,
Liberal left,
And inclusive ways -
These highly marketable means
Perpetuate the stereotype
Of human conscience
And affable swearing -
And that murderous positing
Of unrestrained licensures
Toward freedom’s spending
Shall determine a monstrous,
Sensible, religious,
And gun-toting vision
For middle-American,
Upper-class,
And working-class believers
In a positive, forward-thinking optimism -
To shoulder the future’s
Great reclamations,
For decades to come…

Because the likely outcome
Of historical retributions -
And the generalized, youthful easing
Of tensions -
Both unique and rife
With the turmoil
Of indigenous agents of local promise,
Engender the dissolution
Of trademark courses
In the progressive stamina
Of economic, educational, societal,
And social change.
