places
I am a mass of memories
an embodiment of the struggles of centuries

The carrier of burdens beyond my own
I’ve fought battles for life in seemingly happy homes

Behind the closed doors
I’ve wept on all fours
Bled on marble floors
Silently creating sores.

In this life I’ve struggled to find my place
A reason below the surface for the struggles I’ve faced.

Oftentimes the fight seems futile
The blows from behind feel brutal.

The marks on my mind
Will take time

To heal.
As they do, the layers of life begin to peel,
and I have begun to feel

like i’ve found my place.
