Spirits at the Lighthouses contest: Old House, Lights Flicker, Basement, Door…[FICTION]
I pace the halls of this old house
With each step, bones of timber creak
Her scent still remains on this blouse
A future without her will be so bleak

Candle lights flicker away the darkness
Lighting my way with their swaying glow
As my heart, these rooms are filled with starkness
Objects hold memories that I need to let go

I open the door of the room we once shared
Walking were our bed had once been
Thoughts of a life, can’t be repaired
A draft from the window chilling my skin

Frost on this window distorts my reflection
I see her face were mine should be
My lying eyes cause this projection
From this broken heart I cannot flee

If only I could lock my memories away
In the basement with our past
More objects in darkness to lay
To collect dust until my last
