Haunting memories. A Community Challenge Entry
Band of Gold

I wake up as the light unfolds;
it’s just another day of dread.
The sunlight paints a band of gold
across the cold and vacant bed.

I kneel beside the empty spot;
I supplicate in prayer.
“Please Lord”, I ask, “forbid all thought
and feelings that I care.”

It seems no matter where I turn
I can’t leave you behind
as thoughts of what we had return.
They won’t go from my mind.

Each morning as I come awake
I find the pain and hurt still linger
like the pale gold memory
I still wear on my finger.
