Personal poem
Who am I, really
When no one is around to see
the ways I react and rearrange emotions
and shift into whom I'm thought to be

My reflection could be anyone
she can't be me, I cannot connect
detached and void hazel eyes reflecting
a once happy girl, now utterly wrecked

NO! I refuse to let the enemy win
I must begin to heal and mend
the heart longing inside my chest
to be a person, a woman, a friend

Make some lists and from there a plan
Step by baby step turn coal into gold
Meditate and pray and talk and laugh
Go into each day relentless and bold

I am not my past nor my family nor my pain
Nor my trauma nor this sharp rusted chain
God has made me exactly how I'm meant to be
And through Him I will learn who I am and finally be free.
