Not exactly the square dance I was expecting
I heard about a country dance,
At the old red barn, out of town.
I wasn't sure, but took a chance,
And asked a girl I'd seen around.

To my surprise, she smiled at me,
And said, "Why yes, I'd love to go.
"It will be fun, don't you agree?"
"I do," I said, with cheeks aglow.

"Do you like to dance?" she asked me.
"I try, but guess I'm not the best."
"It will be fine", she laughed with glee,
"No one's judging, so don't get stressed!"'

To our surprise, what we saw there,
Was not what we had expected,
She laughed and didn't seem to care,
I thought she might have objected.

White goats were twirling on hind legs,
While chickens ran across the floor,
Clucking, and sometimes laying eggs,
That wasn't all - there was much more.

The crowd was roaring with laughter,
As snorting pigs were rolling 'round,
Guess I'd apologize after,
I couldn't now, due to the sound.

She squeezed my hand, "Let's take a seat."
And so we watched aside the crowd,
Animals step to the drumbeat,
And music playing oh so loud!

Suddenly a drumroll sounded,
The crowd was silent at the site,
The 22 Dancing Cows abounded,
And shook their bodies with such might.

Then one by one they gave a bow,
And left the floor to shouts of glee,
I never thought I'd see a cow,
Dancing and acting so darn free.

I thought, this will be our last date,
But she said, "Oh my, what a night,
Didn't you think that was just great?"
And suddenly it all seemed right.
