a brief poem about coming to the end of a toxic relationship
I Got Nothing

I hear the phone ring.
I feel the phone vibrate.
I don’t answer.
I got nothing to say.

The tap at the door.
I hear and look away.
Key in the lock ignored.
I got nothing to say.

They whisper at me.
Just listen, okay?
I sigh, regrettably.
Words just get in my way.

I feel nothing inside.
Life echoes in black.
I let one word out.
It’s an all-out attack.

Nobody left standing.
Radiation decay.
Didn’t see it coming.
Should have left it that way.

I hear the phone ring.
The tone I recognize.
Here’s where you apologize.
Then whisper a lie.

Can’t tell me nothing.
All your lies on display.
Like I said over and over again.
I got nothing to say.

Walk the right path.
I see it going two ways.
I know, finally.
Now, you got nothing to say.
