Another poem, based on four words!
Class assignment went as follows:

Pick four words:
1. Something that reminds you of summer
2. A word to describe your job
3. Something you might find at a flea market/pawn shop
4. An "-ing" verb

Then have the words be at the end or beginning of sentences for your poem.

I chose: sweltering, musical, chessboard, & fleeting

Here's the result:

Untitled

Sweltering towers pierce the downtown skyline
While I wait impatiently; escaping the heat
Thanks to the double canopy of tree & bus stop

Glad for a moment's respite from one misery
I glance with pain at the scene on the streets
This bustling traffic can hardly be called musical

The cars remind me of pawns on a chessboard
Only going one direction: opposite yet straightforward
They can do no other - time demands their hurried pace

Fleeting, I see them chasing their just of out reach dreams
