Raining Down From On High
The embers lit up the night sky
Landing on the unexpected.
Raining down from on high,
Red specks scattered on roofs as infected.

Flames burst forth and consumed the wood,
Sizzling scorches filled the air.
Houses moaned and collapsed where they stood.
Trees bowed to the side, as if aware.

Rocking on hinges, doors gave away,
Hoses that watered shriveled and melted.
Fences stood tall, begging to stay,
Pots and pans turned black and melded

Barns that once protected livestock,
Now lay in awkward, angry piles.
Homelands looked saddened and in shock,
One after another, for miles and miles.
