My first attempt at a villanelle since high school.
Past memories kept her weak
shattered, delicate glass on the floor
the world so heavy she couldn’t speak.

Emotions a shade of grey so bleak
she put up walls and closed the door
past memories kept her weak.

Ghosts of her past roamed the streets
falling apart forevermore
the world so heavy she couldn’t speak.

A respite from darkness is what she seeks
feeling disintegrated to the core
past memories kept her weak.

Insecurities so violent they critique
a brokenness takes shape like never before
the world so heavy she couldn’t speak.

Tears from her eyes begin to leak
lost in the ocean, washing up on shore
past memories kept her weak
the world so heavy she couldn’t speak.
