Hanging from a tree, who or what put you there?

What Will You Find

Do you see
Do you believe
Is what you need
More than most
Are you a dope
On a rope
Hanging from a tree
Waiting to be freed
Swinging around
Fighting to breathe
Quantifiable
Each beat
Lumbering along
Mumbling a song
Life not worth living
Death a misconception
Between you reside
Doing your time
On that rope
Will it ever give way
Will the weight
Of what you think
Ever be enough
To break the bind
Snap the twine
Will you ever fall
And be relived
Of what it means
To be yourself
In a world
Of so many else
What will you find
Down upon the ground
Will it be deep
Will it be profound
Will it matter at all
Or what matters
Mean less than it does now
Who hanged you there
And made the rope
Just enough to hold
Not easily broken
But rather a token
Of an idea unspoken
What is God above
Or the devil below
Or has it always been
Your own damn self
Further still
Who added the stones
Who put those weights
Upon your weakened soul
What will you find
When and if
You have the chance
To search yourself
Lighten the load
Or add more gross
A weight unbearable
An amount unsustainable
Will the sound of life
Or the fall of death
Be greater than now
What will you find
Will you want to know
Or will you somehow hope
That any fall you might face
Will be enough to set you free
Whatever such a thing
As freedom for you
Could mean…
