Just some rambling thoughts
Searching for truth
in a world full of lies,
so much disagreement
on the meaning of life
when nobody knows
not for sure anyway
empathy lost for
those who stray
from the common beliefs
instilled from the day
they are born,
leave those who question
torn away from the rest,
mocked, shunned, and martyred
for their daring quest.

Why do we fear so
that we might be wrong,
that what we’ve believed
for so long is nothing but lies,
passed down through generations
since the beginning of time.
Maybe not by intention
but translated all wrong
perhaps literally taken but just
metaphor, or a fictional story
and nothing more.

All throughout history
multiple wars have been
fought defending beliefs
that may not even be true,
because some old sacred book
may have been misconstrued.
Or written by someone who
wanted power over all and
centuries later is still being used
to keep us in line,
what to think, how to act,
what to eat, what to do,
and if for a moment
we should have a doubt,
we are taught are flawed,
because we’ve seen through
the manipulation and lies.
