When you can't hide anymore
This day he woke,
like any other day,
feeling slightly moody,
restless, unsure.

He washed, brushed, and ate.
He sighed as he prepared to stare
into his deep dark closet.

This day, like any other day,
he pondered, "What to wear, what to wear?"
For hours he stood,
debating, thinking he'd picked.
But no.
He hated this decision,
his everyday wardrobe.
Must he wear the same colors
day after day after day?

Green like the grass
on the other side.
Black like the phone
he's afraid to pick up.
Grey like the areas
of the hints he's dropped.

But suddenly, like the sun
at the end of a rain,
it dawned on him-
NO, today he'd be daring.

Yellow for the caution
he'd need to show.
Red like he knew they'd see.
White for a new start.

He slid into this new
fiber rainbow,
somewhat uncomfortable
at first.
Fidgetting, squirming
with the cut of this fit.

Yet, as he gazed at his
new life appearance
in the mirror he'd
grown to despise,
he smiled.

Today they would hear
that he's gay.
