I've known you in lifetimes before.
I have always perceived
echos and been tickled by
deja vu whispers on my neck.

Uncertainty made me
turn my back
to outstretched guidance.
Foolishness caused me to look
the spirit gift horse
in the mouth.

My patient guardians laughed,
switching on the aura light.
My color rich and dark
against throngs of
neon youth.

Still I cowered,
thinking, "How arrogant of me
to own my age".

Yet wisdom has a way
of making itself known.
A murmur of the cosmos
sent me you.

Equally as modest,
your soul shook
hands with mine
as though in a
first introduction.

Still, when we touched
the gust from pages flipping
through centuries of calendars
robbed us of the breath
to say hello.
Our option to deny
was blown away.

I concede that I still grapple
with the knowledge
of my antiquity.
But with the cards,
and my instinct,
and you,
I may finally hear
the message from my pasts.
