"Where's Ellen? I wondered. "She's usually home way before me."
No lights were on in the house. The porch light flicked on.
"Ellen?"
It was the motion sensor.
Inside, the house seemed deathly quiet. In the living room I heard movement. The lights came on, startling me as a roomful of people yelled, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!"
