why I write poetry...
why do I write poetry? I really don't know
on a clean, fresh page, the words just flow
onto the paper like blood from a cut
poetry heals me; drags me out of my rut.
In expressing myself through my writing, I'm free
It's the only time in my life I can just be me.
I take down my façade and pour out my soul
leaving me empty but strangely whole.
poetry means so much to me,
my thoughts take flight, and it makes me see.
there are people who tell me "it's a waste of time"
they don't understand; I love it 'cause it's mine.
it lets me express all aspects of life
the joys and the sorrows, the pain and the strife.
so, why do I write poetry? I do it for me.
It gives me comfort and sets me free.
