Memories of a lover on a California evening.
that day it sang
and was ours

no one bathing in the miles of saltwater
elsewhere
even knew

but they were tresspassing

i remember holding your head
in my lap
tracing your eyes
in little circles with my finger
as you lay
in arrest of innocence

that final time.

and it seems such a shame
that it went unwitnessed
but i doubt they'd believe
if they were told

i remember that evening by the sea
and hearing her sing
for us.
i remember the song,
which i have sworn not to repeat,
and i could never betray
She who gave us
that depth of her love.

i told you i would be back
when i left you in the sand
and though you may not see my face
i did not lie.

i am there often.
