How I feel about a life of ordinary things
Dishes in the sink clatter,
The dog barks, the phone rings.
Today is no different than yesterday,
I’m surrounded by ordinary things.

I’m looking at a pile of bills,
I hear the children start to squabble.
I yell out, they settle down,
But I know the fight’ll break out again.

It’s so easy to forget,
As day follows day,
Not to feel regret,
For a life of ordinary things.

But blessed am I, to have a life
With children alive to sometimes fight.
Blessed am I, to be your wife,
Not everyone gets to marry their best friend.

Blessed am I to collect a child’s hug,
And hear a small voice say I love you.
And if this is a life of ordinary things,
That’s all right with me.
