This one was inspired by my best friend our junior year.

I finally used my new wings today
And sadly you weren't there to see it
I took up and off, freely flying
And my wings, they felt so exquisite

It was a melancholy sight
All too bittersweet to behold
But you couldn't say differently
You haven't yet broken your mold

I faced the world alone today
And I admit, I was real scared
This is to be my new home now
Without you, I leave my soul bared

But I should have known better by now
My expectations of you too high
You're still a growing caterpillar
And I'm now a grown butterfly

All you can do now is watch me
You can never ask of me to stay
Because we all have our own paths
And because it's fate's ill way

I thought I saw you today
And it pained me to see your eyes
You looked lost, utterly helpless
But I could never hear desperate cries

But we're so much different today
Than we were that fateful beginning
I've had to go on without you
Since the real world began spinning

So I'll leave now with a breeze
But once, I know paths like ours cross
I don't know if I'll see you again
But please don't cry over the loss

Because it was all in the plan
My wings spread as I say good-bye
You're still a growing caterpillar
And I'm now a grown butterfly
