At times one feels alone no matter who is near.
Alone
by Vivian Gilbert Zabel

Alone, even when someone stands beside me,
Alone, though crowds swirl wherever I see,
Alone, while doubts and dread violently attack,
Alone, as fears flow and flood both heart and soul,
Alone, with a silent scream echoing endlessly,
Alone, no matter how crushing life’s burdens become,
Alone, unsuccessfully searching for my place,
Alone, although he now lies beside me asleep,
Alone, his harsh words in my heart keep repeating.
Alone, no one knows about the sob-less tears I weep,
Alone, needing to know someone completely loves me,
Alone, here I stand,
Alone, reaching out to nothingness,
Alone and so afraid.
