Watching a boy change into a man is difficult, but necessary.
From Boy to Man
by Vivian Gilbert Zabel

Broad of body, long of leg,
There he dreams, awaiting the day
When childish things are put away,
The day he becomes a man.

Start of wonder hidden well
Behind a bored expression tight,
Yet, eyes glistening with delight
Tell the tale of interests found.

No more the joys of toy trucks
Fill his mind with boyish glee,
Now he searches, a mate to see
Who his life will forever share.

Tall he stands, broad of shoulder,
Yet, once was but a babe most meek.
Now, the soft, downy cheek
Must feel a sharp razor's stroke.

Once he was his mother's child
Before the wide world revealed
Wonders grand unveiled
To lure him far, far away.

Still 'neath the adult facade
Can still be seen glimpses, quirks
Of the little boy who lurks,
Who still lives beneath the outer man.
