Being part of a friend's suffering
Fear trails on through rustic dreams
catching glances far and wide.
Fear creeps cold into the ruins
of the brain that lives inside.

Never daunting, never staid,
never ceasing in its path.
Always seeking its betrayed
muddled mind and aftermath.

Nerves pulled taut tend to break.
Can we try to stop this fate?
Keep at bay and try to make
commonsense of this, our mate?

Can we sit and watch them suffer
without lifting hand nor heart?
Can we not extend a buffer
so that we become a part?

Understanding is the answer,
deeply searching on our part.
Safely guarding like the Lancer
leading blindly with our heart.

Thus I've watched a friend uphold
strength enough for ten.
Ever reaching through the cold
till all was well again.
