A poem I wrote to my father for his 80 birthday
It’s been a long time since I had something to say
So I’ll try making this one, a kind of special day

I first want to thank you for carrying the ball
For being our mentor so strong and so tall

You gave me your courage, your moral position
Your special insight into the human condition

I have lived by the principles you put in my head
I’ll carry your honor and virtue till I am dead

I’m now a man like you with kids of my own
And passed on your values till they were all grown

I know that you told me, real men don’t cry
But you and I know, Dad, that was a dam lie

I saw you under stress that would make any man cry
Then watched your face, your eyes were not dry

So thank you for molding me from a small lad
In to someone like you, my hero, my Dad.
