My entry for a poetry comp
Seeking

It was a cold day that December;
Fresh snow fallen on the ground.
A cold day, like the big one in '63,
When all about there wasn't a sound.

The wind blew a chill against his cheek.
The open vista before him
challenged, "Stop! Go no further,"
As the light grew ever more dim.

But he knew in his heart, he must press on,
Searching through many a road.
Or else fate alone would be the decider.
He'd find her, or explode

On he walked, and on and on,
til, after seeming like days,
He knew he never carry on;
Then lights flashed deep in the haze.

It was a lonely hotel just out of town;
The neon tubes glowed and beckoned:
"Special offer! One room for two nights."
Good deal for me, the young man reckoned.

So he ordered one room,
And as he paid for it too,
The desk clerk smiled sweetly,
"5206 is empty, with a south view."

"Your only the second caller
We've had with us this night,
And the first one, let me tell you,
Fair gave me a fright".

With that she reached
Gently under the desk,
Pulling out the sweetest kitten
This side of the northwest.

With that the young man
Jumped in the air,
"Why Prudence! It's you,
Looking as if you haven't a care."

I've been searching all over
This place and that,
And look where I find you,
My dear sweet little Cat!!
