It's a place of which only I know
A summer day in my land of solace

Do you know where to look
when I'm in tears,
cowering from my fears,
and seeking an end?

I find sanctuary in a little place
where dreams are lost
at high and low costs,
but people still occassionally tread.

By a freshwater lake
stretching far beyond my sight,
in my dreary life I find light
that gets me through the pain.

Down the road stands a store
once the epicenter of town,
but now no customers are found
anywhere nearby.

The largest thing here is
a symbol of death
and is all that is left
amongst a land in ruins.

People hardly walk these grounds,
which is why I come here
when no one will lend a supportive ear
as I wallow in my pain.

Yet amongst this overgrown mess,
I find what I need:
to let tears flow and emotions be freed
while no one is watching.

In a time when I'm losing everything,
I need a sanctuary,
where interaction isn't necessary,
as the solitude is what I can't live without.
