Written using calendar, telephone, mailbox
No Word
by Vivian Gilbert Zabel

The telephone sits silently waiting
With no ring announcing his call.
No word, no word, no word at all
Is heard, but he said he would.

The mailbox stuffed with papers, bills,
No letter from him does it hold.
Has his love so quickly grown cold?
He promised to write, but no word.

The calendar flips from month to month,
As my life seems to fly slowly by.
Still no word, I wonder why?
He swore he loved me; he did.

I stay alone now, all alone.
The word I didn’t want came.
The message sent wasn’t the same
He whispered before he went away.

Would I feel less sorrow, less pain
If I didn’t know the score,
Like a look at forgotten lore,
Fare better with no word at all?
