A very emotional poem about a little boy and his family during the war in Iraq.
Oh, little one, you used to play,
Outside with your friend’s everyday.

Mama would later call you in to eat,
Dirt and sand would cover your little feet.

Rice and bread was all your Mama had,
You would sometimes find her unexplainably sad.

"Please," you would say with a sigh,
"Why do you feel the need to cry?".

You never understood exactly what was wrong,
Mama would just tell you to run along.

You woke up one morning to a very loud noise,
Outside you saw several young men and boys.

This wasn't normal, you knew for sure,
Your overheard your daddy say, “This is war.”

What did he mean, you couldn't help but wonder,
Then, another loud noise that sounded like thunder.

Your Mama was shaking as she watched your daddy leave,
“Where is he going?” you asked, and began to grieve.

A few days later, you would come to find,
That your daddy was injured, and left behind.

You watched your poor Mama slowly fall apart,
The loss of your daddy, simply broke her heart.

It was surely dangerous, but you weren't afraid,
Until days later, you were killed in a raid.

Ma'as'salamah, little one...
(Good-bye)
