A poem about dealing with the past and the journey that entails.
The child was young
So young and free
But something changed
For the child I see

The child’s safe world
It was no more
But who should pay
For the things she bore?

The child grew up
And tried to forget
But as life wore on
Her needs went unmet

The grown woman was cold
But you couldn’t tell
What happened long ago
She covered it well

Her faith in God
Kept her on track
But how many times
Would she turn her back?

The woman began a journey
She knew she had to take
To deal with the past
And the bonds she had to break

She looked to God
In her time of despair
And God gave her friends
To lighten the burdens to bear

The woman is finding the child
She wants to set free
I know how hard the journey is
For that child is me.
