written to express my frustration with insomnia
...and trees with wings like hawks
circle above my head
as i wait for sleep to come
they throw me questions in the wind
which fall gently to me like feathers at first
but soon i am pelted with bullets of
accusations and interrogations
in a requiem of voiceless terror
that echoes soundlessly through
my weary head in a tongue
long forgotten by man and beast
i roll onto my side, curled in a fetal position
with only a few blankets above my head
for protection
as the sky joins in on the fun
it presses down on me
bidding me sleep while it booms with laughter
cruelly taunting me
with relief for a brief moment
before smothering me again
and all i can do is lay in pure exhaustion
as sleep evades me yet again...
