A poem about change.
Change...
is a constant thing,
something that happens
no matter how hard we try
to stop it.

Me - I'm stubborn.
When change comes knocking
at my door,
I shove it
and push it away
Yet somehow
it always ends up
the winner.

Others are more flexible -
they take what's coming
at them
and use it to their
advantage.
But I'm not like that.

I observe change,
watch it grow and manipulate,
stretch its long arms
and change the world I once knew
into something else,
something far more worse
than I could imagine.

I notice the girl,
the one from school
who lost 50 pounds
over summer,
who feels more confident in herself.
I notice the other girl,
the one they call fat,
wear darker make-up every day.
I notice every person
in the hall,
know them by name
and watch them change
from immature children
to respectable teens,
wondering,
Do they know me?
Do they know I exist?

Everyone around me
is changing,
whether it's to fit in
or be themselves.
Then there's the same,
old me...
I notice change.
Do you?
