About the soldiers who died in war and are now buried at Kranji War Memorial in Singapore.
Idyll's End

As we dance and sing,
As we make merry all night.
Wine and food and games,
We drink to our hearts' content.
Young and free and strong,
Only just blooming in life.
All we knew was just
Happiness and lasting peace.

But who was to know,
Who would have thought that,
Who would have speculated,
That all this was not meant to last,
But to come to an end.
That in the best years of our lives,
Youth would be taken away so cruelly.

BOMBS, Warplanes, Enemies.
Blood, tears, Fear.

Called to duty, as a man of the country.
To face the cruelty,
Shoulder the weight,
Bear the pain.

For Honour,
For Liberty,
For Peace.

Peace broken,
Freedom lost.
Homes destroyed,
Families torn.
Dreams shattered,
Idyll? Ended.

Dusty winds, bloody soil, empty streets.
Leaves fall from their trees,
Drifting down slowly.
Ever so softly, touch the cold, hard ground.

Painful losses,
Painful sacrifices,
Painful memories.
What else is left behind,
But heartache, and desolation?
