the truth behind closed doors
Streaks of polish
leave their mark
with a shakey hand
as lipstick settles
in aged cracks
deep in thought
and quick glances to the
kitchen clock
coincide with his bellows.
....One look in the mirror
reveals such sadness
heartbreak with longing,
a longing long lost,
since forever ago
and a lingering
that one-inch pancake
cannot create.

Cotton candy turns to dust
on an acid tongue
and his eyes reveal the only
emotion he's capable of
and she is forced to bow,
bound and chained by chance
with a voice so hollow
into submission
as they head on out
to another masquarade.
