A Poem To My Sister, To Let Her Know I Understand
I know right now you feel alone, like there’s no point to carrying on
I know you’re hurting and all you can do is ask why he has gone
You’re blaming yourself, wanting to know what is that you’ve done wrong
Needing to know how it all can end after you’ve been with him so long

Endless questions are plaguing you’re mind but the answers never come
What have I said? How can I make it right and what have I done?
You try not to think but to carry on, yet the memories just won’t go away
Haunting you to the brink of insanity, images of his face on constant replay

Just to see him and ask him why, once last chance to make it right
If only you could go back in time to change the events of that final night
You plan what you’d do different, know what you wouldn’t say again
Change where you went, what you did until thought makes you insane

You’re heart feels like it’s dying, you can physically feel it break
Knowing what happened wasn’t meant to be, just an evil mistake
How do you accept it’s all over when you still love him so damn much
Praying for him to forgive you, to phone you, to somehow get in-touch

People tell you that as time moves on the feelings will up and leave
That all the pain you feel will go and you’ll no longer have to greave
But believe me, that isn’t the truth and it gets worse with every day
All because you can’t let go, convincing yourself he’ll return someday

You wish people would stick their advice, every word is just the same
You’ll be ok, you’re better off without him, you’ll find love again
He treated you bad, he made you sad and took everything from you
Never giving in return, just left you with nothing, how could his love be true?

So in the face of the world, you smile and pretend that you’re alright
You save the tears for yourself, only letting them flow at night
People forget what happened, their words of wisdom will disappear
They forget what you’re going through or not mention it from fear

But darling remember I know, you don’t have to face anything alone
I will go through it all with you, you’ll never be on your own
I’ve learnt how to cope and I’m going to teach you
You’ll be able to bare time again and pull through

We’ll hurt together and together is how we’re going be from now on
We’re going to succeed on our own, who cares if they’ve gone?
We’ll cry and cry until there’s no tears left, then instead we’ll smile
Which I know for fact neither of have done in a very long while

So to you my darling sister, take as long as you need, cry every tear
But someday we’ll face this world without a flinch from fear
