a reflection of my feelings dealing with an illness and going through some tough changes
Innocence

She lies awake at night
Wishing she were a child again
Wanting to regain her innocence
Wanting to be free to play all day
Without a care in the world

She lies awake at night
With tears in her eyes and streaming down her cheeks
As she stares at the ceiling
Trying to make sense of the world around her
Trying to comprehend the things that have taken place in her life
Nothing fits

She lies awake at night
Wishing she were someone else
A younger someone
A youth again
But that cannot be

She lies awake at night
Hoping things will change
But they won't
They can't
She knows this

She is done lying awake tonight
And cries herself to sleep
Dreaming of both the life she's missed
And the innocence she can not keep
