Heartache caused by an extramarital affair often surpasses the joyful moments.
Even though I knew
This day would surely come
My heart is filled with sadness and
Fear of joy come undone
I have thoughts I never shared with you
You are always on my mind
Thoughts I never put to words
For memory of a girl you left behind
I'll continue to see you
For as long as you allow
And wait in dread for the day
I'll no longer come around
Today the day arrived
As I knew it would, too soon
I cry the tears of missing you
Oh, so quietly in my room
Recalling the words you spoke
When you called
With the tragic news
And later,
You mentioned many times
How I helped you
Through the gloom
I was the bright spot
In your day, you said
Something to look forward to...
I never in a million years
Would have taken that from you
Still- I tried and tried
To keep my heart afar
But found myself enamored by the
Person that you are
While your life changed its course
Mine has stayed the same
I return, heavy-hearted,
To a loneliness;
Certain and mundane
Please use your sensitive nature
To show me along
And help to gently place me
Back where I belong
And if ever I should be
In the shoes you are today
I would pray for you to be
The bright spot in my day.
