This is a prayer-poem.
Before the altar of the Lord
I kneel and offer my humble prayer,
“O Christ, break Thou the flaxen cord!
That binds me down in deep despair!

“O lift my heart, comfort my soul
Give me strength to do what’s right
Make my poor, blinded spirit whole
And lead me to Salvation’s light.

“O Father look on me today
And help me see another’s need
Guide me to serve along the way
Help me to be a friend indeed.”

Before the altar of my God
I lift my voice in grateful praise
My heart swelleth in songs and laud
For He hears this prayer I raise.

The Spirit whispers to my heart
And gives me strength to bear
Another’s load and do my part,
Thy gospel’s saving light to share.

For when I serve, I feel Thee near
Guiding gently upon the narrow way
And Thy empowering voice is clear
Leading to Thy Celestial day.

Before the altar of my King
I lift my voice in sweet communion,
And offer thanks for everything
And with the Holy Ghost have union.
