Overcoming life's struggles.

Reflection

I had this beautiful mirror
hanging on my wall,
It fell to the floor and shattered
and this is what I saw.
A thousand tiny slivers
not one piece the same,
Each one showing my reflection
each one bearing a different name.
The mirror that had once been
was gone forever now,
I could piece it back together
but the question was...how?
There were so many pieces
I couldn't bear to think,
How long it was going to take me
to find every single link.
I gathered up the pieces
and placed them nearby,
once they'd all been collected
I told myself to try.
I took it day by day
and with as much patience as I could,
Many times I almost gave up
and many times just thought I should.
As each piece worked together
this image began to form,
I was overwhealmed with a sense of completion
although it looked tattered and torn.
I had picked up the pieces
and returned them to their place,
Through my persistence
I could once again see my face.
This grinning figure stared back at me
disfigured and quite unclear,
But I looked hard and deep within
and the lines all disappeared.
When someone else sees that mirror
hanging on my wall,
All they see is it's ugly scars
from it's terrible unhappy fall.
It's really a beautiful masterpiece
that represents my stormy life,
The pieces that were blown everywhere
and sure recovery from my strife.
