Choices

I took the road less travelled,
bid farewell to all I'd known;
and set out on my journey,
to find my way back home.

Stepped out of the person I'd become,
exposed for all to see;
beneath my self-survival suit,
the naked truth of me.

The scars of time and circumstance
are fading in the sun,
too long I'd worn the armor
for tribulations never won.

I feel the strength returning
as I come back to me;
living my life with no facades,
moving ahead with clarity.

We determine every road we take,
the battles and the games we choose.
The ones we're certain we can win,
and even those we know we'll lose.
