My first time attempting to write a poem.
I am from the land of make-believe
from the gentle breeze that passes through my bedroom window.
I am from the garden of rose petals
(red and yellow buds blossoming in the sun.)
I am from the place of tea parties
from the itchy African grass and the angry Atlantic ocean.

I am from the family of kite fliers,
huggable teddy bears and delicious strawberry cupcakes.
I am from the smell of new born skin,
from a blend of white powder, bedtime stories, grandpa's pattycakes and sing alongs.
I am from dancing queens, spelling bees and wild parties.

I am from dreamcatchers and set goals
from handbags and high-heeled shoes
the laughing and crying on my cousins' faces.
I am from the playfulness of Missy's bark
from mystery and romance.

I am from the mirror
image starring straight
into the memories of a child.
