First Assignment
A hundred blank
lined pages wait in anticipation.
It was not often
that they were blessed with ink.
Only when the leaves of my heart
have wilted and fallen to the ground.
And are buried deep within the snow.
For winter to me is the saddest season of all.
And it has been winter in my heart
since last April.
Pages once blank are now filled
with dried tears and words
of a broken heart.
I once read that
It takes a minute to find someone special,
an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them,
but an entire lifetime to forget about them...
These words ring true in my mind
for you, my first love, are unforgettable.
It's been so long, I should just move on.
There's other fish in the sea.
But I keep hoping you'll swim
Back home to me.
