Memories in Caffeine
Just a Cup of Coffee

The rain splatters against the cafe window.
As the steam rises she stares at the memories reflected in the cup.
With every absentminded stir another picture takes it's place.
Reaching for the creamer she quietly laughs at the irony.
stirring in the powder, the memories disappear.
Oh that it were that simple.
She raises the cup to her lips,
the hot bitter truth wakes her from her dreaming.
Staring at the curdled liquid her tears fall like the rain on the window.
She sets the cup down and wipes her tears.
Anything else? asks the waitress.
Another cup of coffee, she whispers,
and steels herself for another memory.
