My childhood memories of my father
Life of a Boy

He was the foundation, in which I placed the pillars of my life,
Unerring,
Unbreakable,
Unquestionably the father, my father.
In my young eyes, he was unmoving,
Always dependable,
Never expendable,
Forever able, to meet the needs of life.

But as children do, I grew,
And the world I saw so delicately painted by his able hands,
Began to cloud over.
Until nothing remained of the boy I was,
But only the hollow shell of an adolescent male,
Waiting,
Wishing,
Wondering, when my time would come.

A time when I would leave,
Pack up,
Be gone,
Forever leave this desolate area of disheartened farmers,
Forge a new life beyond the bend,
Past the horizon, to a place only I could dream of going,
Far away
Far, far away.

When I get there, this place of my dreams,
A place where it is only I,
I will be free,
Independence,
Unbounded,
Never again plagued by responsibilities,
Duties,
Life.

And I know where it is,
All I have to do is jump…
