poem about how Dr. King worked for equality
The girl walked into the office,
Fear swam into her eye.
"Momma, do I have to?" the young girl cried.
"Yes and stop whining," came the sharp reply.
So with heavy heart full of despair,
She entered the doctor's room.

"Sir my name is Sally Mae,
Do I have to take my booster shot today?"
The young man looked down with kind wise eyes.
He sat her on the table,
As she began to cry.
He answered, "I'll let you decide,
But first, let me tell you the story of a man named Martin."

"His name-Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.
He had a dream
That set you and me free
He was a brave soul
Fought for what was right
Helped end segregation
Without picking up a fist to fight.

Bobmbs were thrown
At his house, yes his home
People threw him in jail,
Yet he refused to fail.
People threatened him
His wife, his children,
Still he marched on.
He knew he could die
But still he went on.

Then one terrible night
As he stood on the balcony of that hotel
He was shot.
Martin fell down
A wound bleeding openly,
Martin was dead.
Some coward had shot our courageous civil rights leader.

We cried and said
We wished it wasn't so
But I know if he could
Martin would do it all over again
Because Martin was a brave man.

Now little Sally Mae
Shall I give you this shot today?"
"Yessir," she said with a smile
Wiping the tears from her eyes.
"I'll be brave like Dr. King
And help carryout his dream."

The man smiled, winked, and disappeared
As the doctor rounded the bend.
"Hey, little Sally Mae, how are you today?"

So she wondered
Could it be?
Did I see Dr.Martin Luther King?
Just in case
From that day forward,
The girl worked hard
Never giving up,
Fufilling the dream.

So now I challenge you,
Black or white,
Hispanic or French,
Italian or Australian,
Short or tall,
Fat or small,
Take up the dream,
Take up the challenge,
And we shall live in peace and harmony.

Whenever you're scard,
Whenever you doubt,
Remember the dream,
Remember the story,
Remember the challenge,
Remember the man with all that courage.
