Hair and eyes colour: Thick, curly grey hair, bearded, pale blue eyes;

Food: Traditional English cookery, Coffee made with milk and two sugars, Biscuits, Corned Beef Sandwiches;

Colour: Brown;

People: Fellow residents of Beech House, particularly Mildred;

Current Realities: Lives in a residential establishment for people with a learning disability, and is in receipt of benefit;

Educational Background: In remedial class throughout school, left school at 14;

Style of speech: Simple, very quietly spoken;

Style of dress: Wears tweed jacket (brown), grey trousers with hem coming down, shirt and tie. Has a brown overcoat for inclement weather, but also always wears open toed sandals with socks;

Anything else: Tom spent most of his life living with his parents in Folkestone until their deaths in 1976 (father) and 1980 (mother). Since 1980 has lived at Beech House in Hythe. Can make snacks and drinks, can take care of personal hygiene, but has difficulty with reading, writing, and numeracy, though is able to make small purchases without assistance. Tom absolutely dotes on Mildred, who accompanies him almost everywhere. Mildred is more obviously disabled than Tom, seldom speaking, and reliant upon him for assistance with walking. Being able to help Mildred gives great pleasure to Tom, and is probably his primary focus.
