Do you remember that quiet girl at school, the one with the secret smile?
This is an old poem, probably the first I ever wrote for myself. I think I was thirteen or so at the time and struggling. I rather like it though.

I look in the mirror, what do I see?
A girl like myself looks back at me.

I reach out to touch her, to soften her glare,
Then I remember there's nobody there.

A featureless face, an emotionless mask;
A barrier made, a meaningless farce.

Pain and grief, long since have died,
and with them went love, locked deep inside.

The truth of the matter hidden away,
her heart protected from what people say.

I examine her closely; look for the key,
to open her heart and make her love me.

To look in her eyes shows her body's a shell,
with hidden emotions, she wish she could tell.

Her friends think they know her, yet how could that be?
I know her best, that girl is ME.
