A sonnet about some of the kids I see around town and in bars, the kind of kid I was.
Just A Boy

He is in pain, trying hard to stay sane
Now’days everything’s too much, he can’t match
Their eyes so bright and hearts so light, his bane
Is every happy smile he can not catch

He keeps his curtains drawn, like devil’s spawn
Skulks in the dark and always wears his shades
‘Cause with every speck of light demons dawn
Wearing him down until he gives in, fades

He can’t take it all, no, he’s bound to fall
There’s no solace for a soul so ink-black
No divine help or just a friend to call
Once the blood starts to pour there’s no way back

But Death’s cool hand catches the last drop
Vows the sun will never again come up
