My heart weeps. Can you tell me where he is?
I don’t know where my lover is
And it worries me to no end
This love story with a beautiful start
Has taken a serious bend.

Last I was in his arms
We were happy and in bliss
Like there was no tomorrow
We’d just hold each other and kiss.

But that was a week ago, and
He promised he’d call from Manchester
A place he called home
Before he boarded the RAF transporter.

It’s his birthday tomorrow
Am dying to hear his voice
He turns 31, my blue eyed boy
And my heart aches terribly inside.

The plane broke down in Basrah
He’d cancelled his commercial flight
Took a lift from his RAF buddies
So we could be together , just one night.

Somebody tell me what to do
For I don’t know where he stays
Last he was in a tent, and I
Don’t know how he’s spending his days.

Neither do I know where to call
Don’t have his Manchester number
He promised to ring up for sure
This girl born in the cold of December.

‘No phones here, this is Iraq’
Everything to lose and nothing to gain
‘Sorry, can’t call,’ his only mail says
Somebody help me, I am in so much pain.
