I remember, and regret.
Droplets of heavy rain
drip from my eyelashes
as I stand at the corner
of Broad and Market.
My clothes hang heavy
on my aching body,
clinging desperately
to tired and worn bones.
My eyes turn slowly upward,
questioning the meaning,
accepting this baptism
of the downpour.

I remember -
the last time I stood
in this exact spot.
It was Summer
and I was in love.
My youthful muscles
flexed under the sun,
as we raced hand in hand,
to our destination.

A week later,
you were taken
from this world.

Now I stand glued
to this spot.
Umbrellas pass by quickly,
others rush around me.
I feel my heart slow
as it aches for you,
as it aches to say goodbye.
My one regret -
I never said goodbye.
